Atlayo Social Network and Search Engine Seized by Law Enforcement
Tor social network Atlayo seized
The National Drug Headquarters of the Czech Republic recently seized the Tor-based social network Atlayo, as well as its corresponding search engine, Atlayo Search. The stated reason for the seizure is that members of the site were selling "illegal content of narcotics and psychotropic substances."
The site, like many other Tor social networks, used a similar UI to Facebook, and included the ability to join groups, upload videos and music, and chat with other members. The Atlayo search engine, on the other hand, performed basic searches of .onion sites in a similar manner to other search engines like not Evil or TORCH. Prior to the search engine's law enforcement confiscation, it had also been hacked by a group who objected to the type of content it was indexing.
Atlayo is not the first social network on Tor to collapse in this way. Previously, such sites as Psycho Social Network and a number of forums have been seized for a variety of vague reasons. Because of these events, many marketplaces and other sites that tend to be high-value targets have been trying to improve their OPSEC as much as possible.
