OnionTree Releases Vworp! Tor URL Shortener
OnionTree.org, a popular repository of Tor hidden services, recently released a URL shortener for the Tor network called vworp! It can be accessed at the URL http://vworp2mspe566cws.onion/.
Those who regularly use Tor are probably aware of how difficult it can be to memorize onion links and/or type them correctly. This is particularly true of v3 onions, which are made up of 56 characters. Using it is simple; all you do is type in an onion URL and hit the "vworp!" button, and the site will shorten it for you. That being said, at the present time, this service is limited to the URLs that are listed on oniontree.org. Still, there are quite a few links listed on that site, and more may be added to the service in the future.
vworp! also acts as a redirection service. If one URL for a certain site is down, then vworp! can redirect you to one that's online. vworp! tracks the uptime of hidden services' addresses and searches for an active service to accomplish this task. As inveterate Tor users know, Tor hidden services also go offline frequently due to DDoS attacks and other issues; thus the redirection service would also be very helpful.
The origin of the name vworp! is from Doctor Who, as the time machine known as the TARDIS makes a similar sound when traveling through time.
